I ended up taking a job in a local estate agents. It was a family run independent agency in St Ives Cornwall.
The owner, who is a good friend of mine (and currently shaping me a surfboard) treated me well, but estate agency wasn’t for me!
Despite years of haggling in Morocco over the price of absolutely everything from lemons to villa rentals, I am not a natural salesman.
And the transition from running my own surf company in Morocco to a desk job was soul destroying.
The adventure and freedom that I had taken for granted had been taken from me. For the first time in a long time I didn’t feel in control of my own destiny.
I didn’t know it at the time but this was probably my first experience with mild depression.
It wasn’t however just my change of lifestyle that sparked these feelings, my lower back pain was getting significantly worse and I didn’t know why?
